Gentoo’s Architecture Testers

So, over the past few months, I’ve sent in numerous requests on bugzilla for various packages to be stabled across the different architectures that Gentoo supports. Mostly, they’ve been for xterm and gnucash. In most cases, the early responders to those bugs are the Gentoo Architecture Testers (Arch Testers, or ATs, for short).

These fine people are running stable profiled machines and this is what they do — they test packages that are candidates for stable and report. I …

Well, Yahoo! officially broke the story today that 3M is buying my old employer, Brontes. That’s really good news for the people there, I think. And it’s certainly a tremendous opportunity for Dan. Just for the record, I had no idea this was coming, so I’m very surprised (and pleased!) about it. This means that for at least a little while, Gentoo will be running on 3M-owned servers :)

Nostalgia: The Amazing Spider, Man

As Mike pointed out, Spider is no longer a Gentoo developer. Logically, this makes sense, because he has not done any development for Gentoo in a long time. However, Spider was one of the early pillars of the Gentoo project. He holds an especially poignant place in my heart, because he and I joined Gentoo at about the same time (followed closely by Matt Kennedy). And he and I were the ones responsible for Gentoo’s Great libpng Debacle of …

Mike, I have to say that your post was the best and most thought-out point of view on thie entire issue. That’s a method I can get behind, and a mindset I can embrace. And I think it would do Gentoo some good. It may even succeed in bringing some flames down.

Wait, this is Gentoo: the flames will stay — someone will have something negative to say about it (not a bad thing) and they will say it in …

Why StreamBase (Platforms Part II)

That’s what I learned this week at the training: StreamBase is a platform. That’s right, behind the registrations and logins and all that (more on that in a later post), you get to discover an IDE that’s easily the best IDE I’ve seen for event processing (in a very generalised way, a lot of GUI builders are event processing builders). Here you have an interface that basically gives you true drag-and-drop functionality to let you create …

South East Asian Restaurant

Heh, it’s not a generic description, it’s the actual name of the place. I went there this week for lunch with a friend of mine and with Aron and his lovely wife, Amy. Now before I get into my mini-review/ranking of the place, let me just say this. All this seeming obsession with food has got a purpose. And this post shows that purpose. More after the nitty gritty. (I should sell advertising in this space right …

Ha, no Indian food update today (see Saturday’s update for that). Yesterday, Josh, Renat, Anna (Renat’s wife), and Aimee (my wife) got together for brunch/lunch at Veggie Planet in Harvard Square. What a fantastic place to eat. I mean really, the food is absolutely delish. Renat and my wife had the Brunch for Henry pizza. Anna and I each had the Homefry Tofu Scramble, and Josh had the Omelet of the Day. One word: yummy. I’ve …

Bugzilla, My DevBox and me

So, this is now the 18th month that I’m still without my old devbox from Los Angeles. I really need to fix this soon. Because I can’t stand mutt’s interface (I prefer evo), I tend not to read -core, -dev or bugzilla email. I know that’s bad, but those are all too high traffic for me to handle with mutt. Now mutt-fans, don’t flame me, it’s a personal choice thing. Anyway, if you think …

As some of you might have seen, I did finally do some updates to mit-krb5 and heimdal this weekend. The bugs assigned to kerberos team had been languishing for a couple of months, much to the dismay of quite a few users. At the moment the kerberos team consists of ryan and myself basically. Emanuele works on krb4 stuff mainly, and I have no idea where aliz has disappeared, too. Between my short time for developing these days and Ryan …

My wife and I have been in Boston now for about 16 months. In all that time, we’ve tried several Indian restaurants about the place. While we haven’t gone out to Worcester, where we’ve heard of some good places, we’ve seen quite a few in the Boston metro and surrounding areas.

Now, here’s the thing. Most Indian restaraunts are just like every other Indian restaurant. You’ll get your chicken tikka masala at a lunch …
