Well, as I feared, the insurance company decided to declare the car totaled. Actually, the body shop to where the car was towed declared it totaled even before then. And so began the long, arduous process of the value of the car being judged, and renumerations paid. What a painful process that is. If you can avoid having your car hit by someone, I highly recommend that you do so.

First of all, it's a game to the insurance company. They, of course, want to pay you the least that they can get away with. I, personally, just wanted what I could get if I had decided to sell the car that week. So they came away with a certain set of numbers, and sent those to me, all confident like "this is what we'll pay you, enjoy." And, of course, that was a total low-ball. They judged it at almost half its value!

So, I cam back at them with car ads and other valuations, and we had to settle somewhere in the middle for it. So in the middle of dealing with one representative from the insurance company, someone else sent me a letter saying that the company was unable to reach me, so I was only going to get 3 more days of storage at the body shop. I called back in to as, essentially, "wtf, we've been talking this whole time" and they dropped the matter.

Well, a week later they tell me that I keep the title of the car, so I have to get rid of it, otherwise they will. They tell me to just pay the towing and storage and they'll renumerate me for, get this, "what's reasonable." So, I arrange for someone to come pick it up who can use the car for parts (at least she lives on, in some way!) the very next day. I pay the charges and send them the bill. They pay me back only half of it. At the moment, we're back in "negotiations" because, to me, this whole claim of "what's reasonable" should have been made clear up front, and not on the very last day.

Last I spoke to them, they were checking to see if the guy who sent the letter really did call me. The lady I've been dealing with left me a message on Friday, but I do not know what her findings are, so I guess I'll find out later today. I'll just update this post when I do.

Now, this insurance company is actually the other person's insurer, not mine. Mine wanted zilch to do with us because we didn't have comprehensive insurance. I even called my rep to ask for advice on what steps I should take. Nothing. They're not interested. They get pre-paid for "service" so why should they care now, right? To top it off, our rep switched the backend insurer, who proceeded to raise our rates for the next year, and didn't bother with informing us of this. We just got a pre-invoice of what we can expect to pay for this new policy from the new insurer one day in the mail. Again, wtf? That company quickly became a member of our past, rather than our present. Ironically, we're now insured with the same company with whom I'm dealing -- and, of course, we dropped our rep like a hot coal. No service, no clients, sorry.

"Renumerate" You keep using that word. I do not think it means, what you think it means.

Because I suck at spelling and language skills. It seems that the older I've gotten the worse my English has gotten. I'll let the word stay in the post.

You don't suck at spelling and language skills. Most of my A's this semester and last in my English Comp classes are because of you. Keep up the good work.
