Weird way to come back, I know, but look: it’s a sought-after enough feature that there are a number of hacks to get it working. So the problem is this: I run irssi within screen on my server, and then connect to that screen session from my laptop, and I’ll add to the plethora of solutions for remote irssi + local notifications.
