For the past 7 or so months (maybe more?) I've been in the mode of quitting Gentoo. At first, I wanted to make sure I had a new email address at which people could contact me. Since 2001, my primary and only email address has been my Gentoo one. And it's still the one that appears on google searches of me. Now, of course, I'm me at this domain, so it should be a no-brainer. Anyway, as I established that ...

All About the Benjies
I've not blogged in a long time, I see. Forgive me, dear reader, for that. In fact, a lot has been happening in the week since my last post. In that time, I've been poring over the job boards, looking for something to do. I admit, I've felt a little discouraged and slightly dejected owing to the lay-off, but life, as they say, must go on. So, I've been doing all sorts of keywords searches on ...
The End of a Short Chapter
Before we left for Christmas vacation, I found out from my boss that the Developer Relations Manager role that I'd been filling for the last few months was going to be dissolved. The reason for this is that the company's focus is shifting to be more in line with its revenue and other goals for this year. Well, today (Jan 2) was the day that that happened, so as of this morning, I've been laid off. I wish I ...
StreamBase 3.5.4
For those of you keeping track at home, we just released a new minor version of StreamBase (3.5.4). There are a few fixes (as seen in the link above), and the Reuters adapter is now embedded. In prior releases, Reuters feeds were read in via an external adapter (so you had to run that and StreamBase, and it would pass the data to the StreamBase app). No longer!! Now we use the newer Reuters API, and the adapter ...
Developer Relations and Evangelism
Today marks exactly one month since I started my new job here at StreamBase. This is important for me, you see, because I got this job (I think) largely based on my experience setting up, running and being a part of Gentoo's Developer Relations team. The thing is, I loved doing DevRel so much that when I had to do coding at my last job I didn't feel as inspired. I mean, I loved that job ...
First Day at StreamBase!
Well, this was the day I've been looking forward to for about 2 months. I finally walked into the StreamBase's offices as their newest employee. It was a great feeling. I'm bubbling with excitement. There's so much to do! The first couple of hours consisted of the usual new employee thing with benefits selection etc. But first, I got to meet mostly everyone (and most for the first time). StreamBase is a really cool group of people. And for the ...
Last Day At Brontes
Well, this was it. Today was my last day at the old job. It was very very bittersweet. I mean, I'm overjoyed about StreamBase. I'm over the top about my new job -- I'm soo looking forward to finally doing what I love. But I leave behind at Brontes a tremendous team. The best bosses I've ever had (Ed and Phil), the best people I've ever worked with (Barbara, Joe, David, Jay, Brandon, Ilya, Rob, JQ, Justin, Adam, and more). ...
Complex Processing, Contests, Jobs
Actually, looking back at the last 3 blog posts that I've made, I've pretty much given away who exactly I'll be working for :) In fact, one person out there guessed correctly. Anyway, when I found the posting on the search engine, I sent in my resume with a cover letter, I stalked HR over on LinkedIn, and then finally I went into the place physically with another letter telling them why I was Seemant Kulleen. 7 interviews and ...
Conti-NEW-ation
Over the past 6 months or more, I've been thinking about where I'm headed, what I'm doing, and what I'd like to be doing. This is mainly career related, I guess. Comes from being in your thirties, maybe? Anyway, I looked back over the 5 odd years I've been with Gentoo, and I realised that what I enjoyed most about being with Gentoo was the developer relations stuff. Not the firing and all that crap, no. The stuff about ...
Newness
I've been really really quiet lately. I've ignored Rach, I've ignored James, I've ignored my new old friend Gordana in the emails. And I've ignored the blog. I haven't been bullskipping or anything like that, though. I've been fairly occupied and busy. First off, Aimee and I are moving out of our current digs and into a new apartment. Our current landlords are great, but the apartment is a little small for us. So we're looking for a ...
