About this site
This site was designed using Django. Where possible, we have tried to adhere to the most recent and strictest web standards (though that is a work in progress). Additionally, this site aims to be as lightweight as possible, while still providing a rich experience. The colours are designed for asthetics and readability (and will be talked about more in an upcoming blog post). The logo was designed by Seemant, with a little tweak from Adam N. Fraser (this will also be discussed in an upcoming blog post).
This site would have taken a lot longer and been a lot harder to code up without the invaluable help of the following people:
- Tom Wesley (tomaw): who has been there since Seemant first started to learn django, and suffered through all the early learnings with grace and patience.
- Dan Christensen (opello): who has lent an incredible amount of help with respect to css and html
- Steve Dibb (beandog): who showed so much patience in helping to port my old blog to here
- Jeff Forcier (bitprophet): for all his patience and demonstrations of simple python and django concepts
- Collin Grady (Magus-): for all his answers late at night to all my inane django questions
- James Bennett (ubernostrum): for all his insight into deep django things
- Brian Harring (ferringb): for teaching me all the tricks of python
- Marien Zwart (marienz) for helping me out with string manipulation and database objects
- Lisa Seelye (lisa): for all her knowledge about content type and web standards and apache.
- James Rowe (jnrowe): for teaching me many things over many years, but most recently about microformats. He also has helped me debug various areas of the site. And, of course, his mathematical mind found the secret to the logo.
Elements of the site’s design and layout were taken from the following amazing sources:
- Veerle’s Blog: gave me the cool calendar “widget”
- Mark Boulton: for my introduction into typography
- Web Typography: for my introduction into applying typographic principles to websites
- Coulix for the ip to country flag idea
